Draft pour pint at Beardslee, before it ran out, thankfully. I absolutely love pepper beers. I love finding pepper beers, especially when it's by accident. It was a slow year around here for Cinco de Mayo pepper beers, unlike other years. Everybody did Mexican lagers instead. Bummer. At least someone gets it! A cloudy golden pour, a touch hazier than the base pils. Mousse foam head. Aroma remains settled on the pils grains. Peppers are there, but they don't scream on the aroma like others in the style. Flavor up front is a splash of cool and refreshing lime. A like dunked pils flavor up front. I was worried the peppers didn't make the impact I expected, but they come through later in the palate. Really interesting beer here. At first, all you get is lime, but by the finish, all you get is peppers, and pretty spicy too. A constant flavor transition in the process. Overall this is a good balance of like, pepper flavor, pepper heat, and pils grains. It doesn't completely abandon the base, which I like. Pepper doesn't overpowering, which is good, though I personally wouldn't complain if it did. A great beer overall, and one that fits my type of beer nicely.
