The Horse is still a surprise package for those trying it for the first time. If you are expecting a thick and heavy Stout or Porter then you’ll be surprised when you find out how light and easy to drink Dark Horse is. The rich malty flavours really do a number on you as do the chocolate notes at the end. Talk about tasty…..

A dark, malty and aromatic beer, with warm chocolate notes.

Cask (gravity) @ The 18th Reading Beer and Cider Festival 2012, Reading, Berkshire England.Clear dark red brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, light hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, caramel, thin roasted, watery. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120504]

Cask, brewery tour Loose Cannon, Abingdon, Oxon 12.06.12 Pours brown with good clarity. Medium sweetness initially on the tongue, a little dark fruits, dark sugar and liqourice both in the mouth and also present on the nose with a good blob of caramel. Fin but not offering a huge amount. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.2

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Deep amber colour, small white head. Aroma is riped fruits, some liquorice mild smoked and wooden notes as well as some toast. Flavour is raisins, liquorice, som eherbal and wooden notes. Balanced, but a bit strange hoppyness in the finish.

cask at reeading ... brown ... bubbly tan head ... soft toffee malt nose ... thin dark fruit roast .. softt toffe malt ... something oddd ... ok
