Cask-conditioned at the Wellington, Birmingham 12/08/08. Opaque black with next to no head. Sweetish, roasted malt aroma. Flavours of dark fruit, a hint of liquorice and a short, dry finish. Despite the ABV, was a lot more subdued than the same brewery’s 4.5% Duke of York tried at the same time. Merely ok.

Cask gravity at Nottingham BF 2007. Black with lasting beige head. Creamy vanilla, very drinkable, doesn’t taste of 5.5% Nice choc. Good. Just very good.
