Polycask at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 19th There were two versions of this available at Merton Beer Festival, we differentiated them simply by calling them one or two and difference was that one was clearly aged in an Islay whisky cask and the other a standard whisky cask. When we went and picked these up from Victor at the farm we were further informed that there was a good chance that despite them being the same Perry pear they had likely come from different orchard and I also believe that they had been aged for differing lengths of time. Both Perries poured light very pale gold possibly nearer silver in fact than gold. The Islay whisky aged perry had definately left its thumbprint on that particular perry as there was a distinct but aged smokiness to this one, there were some nice oaky notes in both aroma and flavour and both perries were really quite smooth albeit with a very good bite and lovely fruity tang. I really enjoyed both of these perries.

Polypin at GBBF. Clear pale gold colour with no head. Musty pear aroma, like an attic. Mouldy pear flavour in mouth. Quite tannic I thought. Puckers the insides of your cheeks. Bit of paint stripper. Quite alcoholic I thought. Bit vinegary too.
