Combining Canadian and American malts with a large proportion of un-malted white winter wheat, Fiat Lux starts with a Belgian witbier inspiration. A blend of Pacific Northwest hops, a little lime peel and a dash of Indian coriander brings a bright blast of citrusy aromatic sunshine, while German Perle hops supply a nice big zap of refreshing bitterness.

Associated Supermarkets, Bushwick growler ($12.99): Pours a golden color with a small white head (keep in mind this is being growlered). Aroma is very zesty: saison-style yeast, citrus, and loads of spice. Taste is very dry and rather hoppy for a Belgian wit. This beer is probably better called a saison, because it tastes more like beers in that style than it does like Hoegaarden or Blue Moon. Good stuff. I like this, and I, in no way, regret the 64 ounces of this jawn.

Tangerine, pineapple, and the obligatory coriander aroma. Much fruitier than spicy. Hazy amber, effervescent, thick yellow head. Coriandet and grapefruit peel. Orange flt midpalate with mild toast and grains in the finish. Weird wit, but damn delicious. Refteshing.

Location: Draft at Bierkraft, 9/8/12

Aroma: The nose has yeast, wheat, a good amount of spice, and some banana notes
Appearance: This one pours a slightly unclear golden-orange color with a white head
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, with wheat and banana, and some spice/clove for balance
Palate: The body is medium, though it leans light, it drinks decently, with a spicy tingly, and a good finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty interesting beer, but it was not a real standout for me, just solid. I'd certainly drink it again, and many breweries could do worse then to have this as the wheat in their line-up.

Draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap. Tulip showed a mostly clear yellow with bubbly, thick head. Sheets of lacing and retention. The nose is a bit different then the flavor. Nose is sweet with lots of fruit esters, showing clove and lime. Taste goes more to a spicy Wit. Zesty coriander, lively grapefruit and pine hops, with the Lime peel shows up somewhere in there as well. Honestly, I’m surprised this isn’t rated a bit higher. It’s a nicely executed Wit. Give it a try and be the judge.

Draft. Bright yellow color, fluffy white head with good retention. Aroma of banana bubblegum and clove. Taste is almost like a hefeweizen. Not bad.
