On cask at Cloisters. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate with vanilla and a creamy backdrop. Taste - more creamy chocolate and vanilla loveliness. Some biscuit in there too. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and an elegant creamy finish. Overall - so tasty you could pour it on ice cream.

bottle at home ... deep black ... thin off white lacing ... massive vanilla... soft chocolate roast nose ... soft sweet chocolate roast ... dark malts ... big soft sweet vanilla roast ... mellow chocolate malts ... quite ssweet but nice

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and dry with fine carbonation. Smooth tangy dark malts, light tang. Brief creamy malt burst. Mild vanilla. Mild coffee. Whisper of dark fruits. Light finish. Pretty good.

Cask at the Black Country Arms, Walsall. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy white head. The aroma is caramel roasted malt and light fruit. The flavour is medium bitter with a rich roasted malt liqourice bitter, red berry fruit vanilla palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation and rich oily mouthfeel. Very rich and more like a stout than a porter. A superb beer with lots going on.

Cask handpull at The Exmouth arms Farringdon. Black beer lasting beige head. Huge chocolate on the aroma. Almost comical chocolate in the mouth like powdered chocolate. 10 years ago this was acceptable. Now? Nope must try harder. Putting more of something into a beer doesn?t mean it?s better. Had to leave it. Way too much chocolate. 2.6 cask gravity at Firkin Alehouse Folkestone. Better than before clearly. Lots of chocolate some vanilla. Ok.

Cask at the Lyric, 17/03/14. Black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is sweet chocolate, vanilla essence, caramel fudge, sugary notes. Taste comprises much the same, sweet lickings, choco vanilla fudge. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, massageing on the palate, sweet close. Looks and feels good but overly sweet at the business end for me.
