Draft at the brewpub. Dirt and butterscotch nose. Black, no head. Dirty currant flavor. More sour than expected from an imperial stout. I appreciate the earthiness, the sourness seems out of place. Lacking body and balance, too sour.

Draft at Churchkey event in DC on November 21st. Pours a deep dark color with a very small off-white head that dissipates almost immediately from my memory. Aroma is pleasant, with notes of spices and fruit (basil and berries). Relatively smooth, not harsh. Touches of chocolates. It wasn’t as ground shattering as I may have initially expected it would be, but it was quite enjoyable. I’m not sure it is something I would drink with any regularity, but it was fun to try. And hopefully I’ll get the chance.
