Experimental IPA #31

This experimental West Coast IPA was dry-hopped with New Zealand-grown Cascade from Freestyle Hops and Citra Cryo.

You've probably heard the term 'terroir' when talking about wine grapes, and it definitely applies to hops as well. It means that depending on where the hops are grown geographically they will be exposed to different weather, soil, and farming practices which will impact their character. Cascade is traditionally grown in the Pacific NW and has pithy grapefruit and resin notes, but this NZ grown Cascade is much different - we taste apricot, red berry, pepper, and mango skin.

Draught at the brewery
Blond colour, bright, almost perfectly clean, with medium sized head. Aroma of piney hops, light dank touch, not excessive in any direction. It's sharply dry, but leaving room for some crackery malt flavour, blond bread crust, and then the piney hop, light grapefruit pith; balanced bitterness. I'm not totally sold on the finish, finding traces of creamed corn and vegetables. Good modern West Coast IPA.

Poured from the tap. Slightly hazed golden yellow with white head. Citrus hops, feint underlying resin. No chalk AND no hop burn (wow!) - Superflux changing things up.

Slight haze, pale yellow, medium head. Lean pale malts, mellow bitterness, light cascade woody, citrusy character. Thin but decent.
