Dark brown and hazy. Medium head. Berry aroma. On the palate it has a full body, light berry, and thick malts...but it's not that sweet. There's a touch of tartness late. Balanced, and there's some nuance in there, too. The barrel isn't overpowering, just lending accents here and there. I'm digging it. I haven't had Arcane since the brewery first opened because I wasn't nuts about it. This doesn't have much Lithuanian character - the yeast is the only element that bears resemblance to those beers, but it's a quality sessionable dark ale that doesn't fit neatly into any traditional style. This is definitely where Jackknife shines - doing things that are entirely unconventional. There's extra levels they could hit (they're not HotD or anything), but where they are now, stuff like this is really enjoyable.
