Keg at Churchills Pub & Grille, San Marcos, 14/11/14. Pitch black with a decent tan covering. Nose is rich roast, lgiht charr, chocolate, dark fruit peel, spice, toffee. Taste comprises rich dark fruits, chocolate sauce, light booze but kept in check, aniseed, spice, rich malt cloak. Medium + body, fine carbonation, smei drying close. Decent impy but maybe just gets a little too hot to be a great for me.

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits a nice deep dark body that supports a mocha colored head of foam that leaves behind complete black out sheet lacing. Beautiful looking impy. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, toasted toffee (love that), a bit of caramel and just a sliver of burnt maltiness. This smells really nice. I love the toasted toffee sweetness going on amid the dark roasted malts and slivers of black patent burnt malts. The taste starts smooth with some thick malty sweetness moving quickly into chocolate malts, dark roasted malts and then molasses sweetness. To midway it gets into sort of chocolate brownie drizzled with coffee and espresso grounds. This ends smooth and urging for another sip. I love this. It is balanced and smooth and rich and deep with lovely sweetness and roastiness. More sips reveal a savory rich toffee sweetness, wow!

Pours black with a mocha cap, pretty dark, bourbon khaki, good lacing and retention. Rich aroma, mounds of chocolate, burnt caramel, roast, dark bread, chocolatey coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, some milk chocolate, very good. Big rich taste to match the aroma, lots of chocolate, roast and coffee flavor, particularly big on mocha-ish chocolate coffee flavor, moderate but lasting sweetness, mild hop and roast bitterness in the finish. Mouth coating feel, smooth and oily, long finish.

Tap. Pours deep opaque black, medium creamy brown head, dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is very roasty, cocoa, coffee, cigarettes. Flavor is the same, light sweet and medium bitter, huge slightly burned roastiness, plus baking cocoa. Wow. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. This is killer for those looking for a bitter, roasty, less sweet stout.

On tap at Societe, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out intense roasted malts, coffee, and dark cocoa. Flavour brings out dry coffee notes, dry roasted malt, and dry cocoa as well. Quite big-bodied and dry, without any off-flavours. Excellent stuff.

On tap at the Stone 17th Anniversary Party. Black body with a dense, finger thick tan head. Mocha and some charcoal on the nose. A bit sweet flavor, with mocha and some charcoal. Not much bitterness. Nice carbonation, full body. Perhaps a bit dry and charcoal tasting but really nice anyway. 130816
