Wood-aged Maibock

This Strong Lager is brewed with Gambrinus Pilsner, Munich, and Honey Malts with Czech Saaz Hops. We finished this beer by adding toasted Sunshine Coast Douglas-Fir chips to the condition process, to impart a lightly toasted Aroma & a mild orange like flavour note.

Amber colour, just hazy. Mild malt aroma, touch of caramel and vegetables. Nice Bock body (not very doppel), the malt base is not bad, sweetish but with good bitterness balance, but also vegetable presence in the finish, that you would never find in a German beer.
It could have been better.

Slight haze, no head. The nose is a bit on the appley-plasticy side of life. Sticky, and lacks the bocky richness one might want. No wood character. So...not sure what happened because it’s too strong and too sticky. Boozy finish. Really quite a mess and wood chips not going to save it. This is just getting it done at all.
