The people of Tampa Bay have fallen prey to a pirate invasion annually for well over 100 years. After more than a century of failing to repel these seafaring raiders in their anachronistic wooden ships and despite access to modern sea, land and air arsenals that ostensibly should make short work of wind powered vessels equipped with naught but cast iron cannons and raging scurvy, it occurred to the folks of Cigar City Brewing that if you can’t beat them, start saying “Arrrr Matey!” We have brewed Invasion Pale Ale, a citrusy, tropical and low-alcohol session beer brewed for those long days of marauding, pillaging and pirating. Cheers!

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a dark amber color with a medium sized foamy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was bitter pine, catbox and tropical fruit. The flavor was bitter pine, tropical fruits, cactus and catbox with a tangy and semi sweet undertone. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Ok.

Draught @ All In Beer Fest 2014. Pours hazy golden with a frothy offwhite head that slowly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is subtle, fruity and grassy with crackers, grapefruit, pineapple, grass, pine and lemon zest. Taste is tiny bitter and fruity with crackers, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, gooseberries, grass, pine, minerals and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is crisp, dry, tiny astringent and light bodied. Finish is slightly bitter with crackers, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, grass, pine and lemon zest. Very fruity and refreshing…

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 10/9/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright golden color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some light steaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, lemon/orange zest, light pine, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is an excellent pale ale. All around great complexity and balance of citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

355 ml. can sampled @ Pure Apricot Tasting. Thanks! Hazy orange with little white head. Huge creamy juicy apricot hops in the nose, sweetish grapefruit hops, orange, flowers,… Bitter grass taste, juicy, apricot, orange, grape, caramel, flowers, peel, bitter grass finish,… Creamy body, very lovely beer, another score from CCB. Awful label ‘though.

Shared can @ Schouskjelleren. Slightly unclear orange body with a small off-white head. Lovely and super refreshing aroma with citric fruit, pine and some pale malt. Flavor is sweet and fruity with pale malt, lots of refreshing citric fruit, bitter grapefruit, pine and good bitterness. Fine balanced body and long and bitter aftertaste. A very nice APA very close to an IPA, really tasty and dangerous quaffable.
