The people of Tampa Bay have fallen prey to a pirate invasion annually for well over 100 years. After more than a century of failing to repel these seafaring raiders in their anachronistic wooden ships and despite access to modern sea, land and air arsenals that ostensibly should make short work of wind powered vessels equipped with naught but cast iron cannons and raging scurvy, it occurred to the folks of Cigar City Brewing that if you can’t beat them, start saying “Arrrr Matey!” We have brewed Invasion Pale Ale, a citrusy, tropical and low-alcohol session beer brewed for those long days of marauding, pillaging and pirating. Cheers!

Well I picked up a sixer of this in cans to take to band practice and share, but then one of the guys took sick and had to cancel. Woe is me to have to drink it all by myself, ha. Well. Pale amber color, light head. Big resiny citrus hop nose. Dry, so dry. Very much in the west coast style, all hop juice and resin, and dry cracker malt. Not so much my style actually. Good enough. Also, I still have to chuckle sometimes about how beers like this are what we expect from pale ales now, when 15 years ago this would have been one of the hoppiest IPAs on the market.

Can, at Schouskjelleren. An almost clear one, golden in color and with a small, off-white head on top. The aroma has pine cones, citrus, hop pellets and some maltyness. It has a mellow bitterness on the palate, with hop pellets, pine cones and citrus peel, the maltyness is left in the back. Medium body and a pleasant carbonation level. Piney finish with hop pellets. A quenching and tasteful pale ale. 140501

4oz draft at Rustico Ballston. Poured a golden yellow color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma was notes of citrus, tropical juicy character and a touch of pine. Flavor was refreshing, easy to drink tropical notes, citrus. Perhaps not memorable overall, but something worth checking out if you want something without pretense.
