Earthy rye and piny hop flavor and aroma meet spicy, funky characteristics from our farmhouse yeast in this American-inspired farmhouse ale.

Admin Note: This Farmhouse version replaced the original Wytchmaker Rye IPA when Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all beers. The original bottles feature a small Jester King sticker on the neck; newer bottles do not have this sticker and say "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.

From a shared 75cl bottle at RBNG-14. Pours deep golden to orange with a white head. Fruity and hoppy with mandarin, citrus and yeasty notes. Medium sweet with some slightly sour notes and pleasant bitterness. Nice one! (2014-02-15 - Grand Tasting, Fredriksten festning, Halden)

15.02.2014, 0,75l bottle sampled @ RBNG14:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is fresh fruity, grapefruit, citrus peel, dried fruits, yeast, grass, hay, light malts. Taste is slightly concentrated fruity, grass, hay, dried fruits, citrus peel, citrus, light malts, yeast. Medium to longlasting bitterness, high carbonation. Nice enough.

Bottle, 75cl, at RBNG-14 Grand Tasting. Lots of off-white head forms over an unclear golden body. The aroma has a nice faint woody touch, it’s lightly peppery and there’s citrusy and some malty notes. Orange peel in the back. The flavor has the same peppery, woody touch, with some pale malts and quite a lot of orange. Full body, quite dry, and quite heavily carbonated. Lasting finish with a good bitterness and some orange. Pretty wonderful this one, could easily have a few of this. 140215

Bottle 750ml @ RGNG-14
Pours slightly hazy golden with a huge off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, rye, light funk, brett? and yeast. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium bitter with a long fruity, yeast and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. Orange, strong rye malt, and orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large head. Over-ripe orange malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Light funky finish. Very nice beer.

Thanks to crajun for the trade! Pours a medium yellow with a tall sticky white head. Complex aroma pine resin, fruit, funk; thinking Saison not IPA here. The flavor follows the aroma; again Saison type complexity. Very nice interesting beer.

Location: 750 ml bottle from a Spec's, 10/6/13

Aroma: The nose is sweet and fruity, some hops too, pine, yeast, and a little spice
Appearance: Pours a murky dark orange color with a huge, gushing beige head and heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor is medium sweet, yeasty and fruity, some spice, and a medium bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a slightly sticky feel, and a plus carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting one. It leans more sweet than hoppy for this style. The farmhouse yeast provides a nice component here as well. I'd prefer a little more hop bitterness in this style, but it is a solid one.

Pours amber with a large lasting head.Nose shows floral and light fruity apple/pear notes along with saison yeast and doughy characters.Very saison-like flavours. Dry with fruity notes and high mineral content. A fair whack of hops with a big grapefruity bitterness.Carbonation seems excessive.

Bottle. Just hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma is bready with moderate funk, grapefruit flesh, lemon zest, coriander, flowers. Taste has sweet grain, sourish bread dough, lemony funk, spicy bitterness. Spices linger. Again, a really interesting beer and one where they’ve clearly done what they set out to do. The balance between the disparate elements is impressive. But why they are all brought together is a lot less clear. Like an overture fight in the orchestra pit: very intriguing but the curtain stays down.
