Hop-heads REJOICE! This American style black ale has a medium-high hop bitterness.

The bitterness is piney and clean. This medium bodied beer has a wonderful dark malt flavor and aroma without roasted astringency.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt with nuts, caramel, earth and a bit of bitterness as well from the hops. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt and nutty flavours with a nice sweetness from caramel and toffee, that all finish with a mild but noticeable hop backbone. Aftertaste again shows more malt than hops, but the sweetness is also around, coupled with some grassy elements of the hops. Overall, a decent Black IPA with some good flavours, but more malt than hops make this about average. I sampled this pint on draught at the restaurant at Skyland in Shenendoah National Park in Shenendoah, Virginia in May 2014.

Draft at the Wild Wolf Brewpub. Poured a dark black color with a slightly tan off-white head. Aroma is some roasted malts with plenty of hops. Better than balanced - this one had a lot more hops than malts, leading to a better India Ale than most other Black IPA/IBAs. Nice carbonation. Quite an enjoyable brew.

Served on draft at Mellow Mushroom Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a medium creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, cocoa powder and faint hops. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, bitter astringent hops. Thin-medium bodied. Not very good.
