Cask at the brewpub. Pours black with a creamy brown head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has a nice rye note with a good amount of roast and a light chocolate note underlying. Flavor has a smooth rye and chocolate combination backed by dark grains and roasted malts.

Draft at Arbor brewpub with meal. As stated in the brewer’s description: it is rich and full-bodied, thick and creamy. The rye is used nicely with the chocolate and coffee with a nice balance of malt and hop bitterness on the finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a light tan head. Rich cocoa and smoky aroma. Flavor is strong and rich dark and milk chocolate, roasty coffee and smoke, perhaps a hint of aniseed. Very, very nice. Probably the best thing I’ve ever had from Arbor Brewing.
