Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt whilst the ball travels at speeds up to 188 mph! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dubbed this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, “the merry game.” Tampa was once home to a bustling Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. Pair Jai Alai India Pale Ale with beef empanadas, deviled crabs and other spicy dishes.

355ml can from somewhere or other, my first Florida beer. Pours dark slight cloudy gold, small white head, lovely retention. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus, pine, very nice if a little standard. Taste is a lovely array of different flavour notes however. It starts with fruits of grapefruit, citrus peel, orange juice, then pine and resin come in with a caramel malt background, finish is a mix of the above, quite tangy and bitter, mild spice, with a slight alcohol nudge on the way down. This may be old skool now but most IPAs don't have this level of complexity in truth. Its a very good beer.

Notes from April 2011 Way past 5 o'clock. Hate playing from behind. Rounded pint glass. Couple inches of heavy, cream-colored head over a clear, orange amber body. Even rings of lace as the mound subsides. Smells of resin, dew, & sticky sweet & sharp(though slightly grainy) toasty malt. Taste is way drier then I had expected. More sharp rind then resin, paired nicely with a toasted middle that doesn't have much residual sweetness. Finish is rind & bittergreens that linger on for some time, to the point where it gets to be unpleasant. Actual hop bouquet doesn't deliver anything special in my opinion. Website says they dry hop with Simcoe, but only related thing that comes through for me is urea; shame. Touch oxidized, no BO/BB date on the bottles that I can see. CC sixers don't usually sit on the shelf for very long up here, so it's probably the wood that I'm misinterpreting. Carbonation is right there. Constantly frothy as well. Light body, & I'm grateful. Drier finish is a plus. Alcohol hurts just a bit, but I'm a puss. Beer has great texture, but I'm not digging the hops. Average rating, but if the individual parts were configured a bit differently... :)
