Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Light palate, a little crisp and airy. Light minerally dark malt. Malt cream. Mellow oak. Mild toffee maple sweetness underneath. Airy semi dry finish. Good but it needs something more.

Big thanks for dak for opening this series of Imperial Stouts at the Annual Black Friday tasting. It pours inky darkness with a minimal tan colored head of foam. The aroma offers up a smooth subtle mix of dark roasted malts, burnt malts and some malt like earthiness. The taste delivers smooth highly roasted maltiness then it moves into muted oak spices. Into the finish the dark roasted malts take on a slight dark roasted coffee sensation. Overall it feels pretty thin for the style.

Bottle, 75cl. It pours a big, light tan head over a black body. Nice lacings. Dark sugars, roasted malts, coffee, licorice and a burnt note in the aroma. Even more licorice in the flavor, with coffee, roasted malts, dark sugar and some faint bonfire hints. Full body, quite sweetish, and with a nice carbonation level. Roasted, licorice-ish finish. Pleasant indeed, but a bit too one-dimensional. 120911
