Old Fountain. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and softish palate. semi dry. Modest carbonation. The dark malts are quite rich and carry a fair amount of roast and roast bitterness. Modest fruity hops float on top, somewhat disconnected. Finishes smooth and with a medium bitter linger. It’s all right.

Bottle from Great Grog. Black body with a tan head that gradually fades. Light lacing. Aroma of musty lemon, blackcurrant and weak coffee. Flavour of Twiglet ash, watery coffee and brambles. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. I’ve listed this as a Black IPA, but in reality it’s a Black Pale Ale (which I’ve not come across before and isn’t listed as a style on RateBeer). To be honest, I’m not sure if this works at such a low ABV, but it’s certainly a unique beer.
