The first beer produced by our world famous brewery. An appealing reddish brown beer with a pronounced hop and malt aroma, the malt tending towards treacle. Slightly sweet and malty on the palate, with distinct orangy tones. The full finish is malty and hoppy a hint of toffee.

On Cask @ Old Market Inn, Douglas. Smooth and malty beginning. The mainpart is malty, smooth, slightly sweet and easy to drink. Nearly no deepness and bitterness there. Quite plain. The aftertaste is medium, malty, slightly sweetish, no bitterness.
A bit disappointing, but easy to drink and solid ale.

Appearance: Clear dark golden color with a frothy off white head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Malty, fruity and mild hoppy.
Palate: Medium body. Slightly sweet and a mild bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Caramel malty, light sour fruity and mild hoppy.
Overall impression: Plain British bitter.

Cask (gravity) @ Hop Pole Inn, [ Hop Pole Beer Festival & Aylesbury Brewhouse Grand Opening 2011 ], 83 Bicester Road, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England HP19 9AZ.Clear medium to dark amber colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, sweet orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Cask at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury. Mahogany colour. Caramelly nose. Sweet with medium body. Mildly hopped with plenty of buttery caramel. Low bitterness. Buttery caramel is not my thing.

Cask, Raven, Bath. Rich amber colour and loose cask head. Bit of butter along with toast. Some light fruits and caramel towards the finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Castle, London 16/10/08. Deep amber with no head. Sweet, caramel and dough aroma with a hint of woodiness. Flavour was full, with a vinous edge, plenty of sweetness and some fruit, leading to a bitter finish. Good.
