Cask served into a UK half pint glass at the Tap East brewpub (Jan ’12). Hazy mid brown in colour, not the darker shade common to a stout - little in way of a head. Roasted malt, a smidgen of chocolate and dark/dried fruits in both flavour and smell. Slightly dry in the mouth and perhaps some hop flavours going on in there. ’Average’ sums this beer up, doesn’t offend, doesn’t inspire, simply whelms ! I felt this more akin to a ’strongish’ dark mild than a stout.

Cask @ the brewpub as Double Hard Stout. Pours a dark brown almsot black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty bitter chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty bitter chocolate finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

On tap at the Brewpub. Hazy brown beer with a residual white head. Light and smooth palate, very mild carbonation. Very mild dark malt, smooth with a trace of chocolate A little sweeter generic fruit in the mid before a seamless transition in to mild orangey hops. Finishes semi dry with a whisper of coffee and more mild hop. Interesting beer, obviously not a heavy stout but full of subtle flavours in good balance.
