Bottle. Labeled Poldermolenaar, no sign of the number #08. Looks like the same beer though. Color: Clear amber to copper, beige head. Aroma: Raisins, candy sugar, caramel malt, some dark fruit. Taste: Raisins, candy sugar, figs, malty, caramel and some dark malt, floral hop backbone. Over moderate sweetness, light going to moderate hopbitterness. Just over medium body, below average carbonation. Light boozy hints. Ok.

I acquired a 33 cl bottle almost a year ago from Smaakhuis. This is a particularly frosty and cold day, snow on the ground in west Texas and elsewhere. Time to sample a quadrupel. My Straffe Hendrik snifter gets the honor today, the bottle is opened and pouring now. The body is a dark cola color finished by a creamy head of eggshell foam. The smell mostly follows the traditional quad scent, dark fruit, grain, yeast and malt. The drink likewise has an essentially quad presence. Figs, brown sugar, bread, black plums, a bit of toffee, malt and a small bitterness at the end. Not earthshaking but not a bad representation of the style.

Bottle at home. Red brownish color, medium sized off-white head. Aroma amd flavor are malts, a bit nutty, iron, earthy, dusty. Light sweet and light bitter notes. Meh. All over the place if you ask me. Not very good.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is candy sugar, brown malts, spicy yeast, caramel, clove, more spicy notes, some dried fruit. Flavour is sweet with a light bitterness. Medium body. Well-made spicy Quadrupel.
