Bottle at home. Aroma is strong roasted malt, dark bread, lots of coffee, even more liquorice, charcoal, touch of dark chocolate and hops in the finish. Flavour is sweet with a moderate roasty hoppy bitterness and a long bittersweet aftertaste. Body is medium, a bit thin for the style. Good beer but hardly one of my favourite Imperial Stouts, it’s way too thin and too heavy on the liqourice.

Bottle from het Biermoment, batch 2015009 dated 21/10/15, large sample. Dark oily color, short frothy brown fluorescent head. Aroma of roast, lots of dark bread and loads of fresh spicy coffee, touch of licorice. Quite sweet in taste to begin with, after which some velvety roast and coffee bitterness comes through, finishing with a bit salty licorice. Not perfectly balanced yet, but with a bit of work to get an even more creamy body, this could seriously get to be one of the better dutch RIS. Great job, promising!

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized dark brown head. Aroma is malts, light roast, firm coffee. Taste malts, firm coffee again, some hops come through, a slight sweet hint, a slight distant hint of liquorice. Mainly dark malts and coffee though. Initially quite sweet, soft bitter finish. Thick viscous oily texture, full body, soft carbonation. Very nice!

Oersoep festival. Zomerkwartier, Nijmegen. Koffie met veel bittere hop, beetje wranger dan je zou willen. Backlog from 2015/08/29.

On tap @ Brewda 2015, small sample. Dark red-brown color. Aroma’s: ROAST, lots of it, ground coffee. Retronasal it’s the same with additional light sweetness. Flavor is moderate sweet, heavy roast, light sour. Medium bodied. Finishes with more roast, moderate bitter. Maybe too much coffee, but I liked it anyway.

Re-rate almost 7 years later (although it was canned in Jan 2021). Pours pitch black with a big dark brown head, a small layer retention. Arom's: heavily roasted, coffee, berries. Retronasal follows this mostly, with some bitterness from the roast. Flavour is moderate roasted bitter with a light sweet note and a touch of coffee/berry sourness. Smooth mouthfeel. Roasted, almost burned finish, coffee, bitter. Still quite rought, but I like it.

Draft sample @ Oersoep Bierfest 2015, Nijmegen @ Stoom.

Sampled draft from Stoom during Oersoep Craft Beer Festival 2015. Black, big mocha head. Nose is huge on roast, mocha, chocolate, big bark, heavy roast. Taste is big chocolate, roasted mocha, licorice, quite burned, charred coffee, charcoal finish,… Charcoal & licorice body. Okay but rather too heavy on the roast, far too much plus it has a bit too much licorice for me but still not too bad.
