A unique Australian Pilsner, brewed in Beechworth from Chestnuts grown locally in the Beechworth and Stanley hills. The Chestnut Pilsner also uses Galaxy hops from the Rostrevor Hop Garden in the nearby Ovens Valley. As with any of the worlds best pilsner the most important ingredients is time, and we have allowed this beer plenty of it, with each batch aged for around 3 months before release. Bridge Road Brewers have created a gem of a beer through experimenting with local produce, a truly local brew!

This unique lager is very pale and presents a crisp ’pilsner’ like profile combined with a distinct nutty character owing to the use of Chestnuts in the mash. The crisp clean profile of this beer lends itself to the summer months and can be paired with seafood or lighter dishes.

From a 330ml bottle on 1/7/2012. Pours a slightly cloudy, very light straw colour with a smallish head. Almost looks a bit like a wit. There’s not a lot in the aroma, with just a hint of nuttiness. The taste follows suit. You get the some chestnut and grassiness, along with a reasonably firm bitterness. Fairly average. Rating 2.8.

Re-rate 25/1/2014. Was perhaps a touch generous the last time.

Pours pale yellow with a small head.Nose shows grassy, lemony hops and definite chestnut, along with some metallic malt. The grassy character is a bit strong.Similar flavours, lots more lemon and nutty notes. Grainy malt still remains unfortunately.Carbonation is moderately high, goes well with the light flavours.

Golden pour with a good-sized head, pity it didn’t last.Quite a grassy aroma, with some sweet toasty malt and interesting nutty characteristics. Chestnut aroma can definitely be found if you know what to look for.Flavours are not as interesting, chestnut characteristics are hardly noticeable. Very crisp and dry (very pale-lagerish). Some lemony hops and satisfactory but boring malt.Carbonation is too sharp and prickly.

Bottle. Very light orange with a small white head. Mild aroma has earth and little citrus with a definite nutty character (although I wouldn’t have guessed chestnuts without knowing) . Fairly thin cereal malt taste with respectable pils-level bitterness. The chestnuts are barely noticeable in the taste and don’t seem to do anything to the rather thin mouthfeel. An OK pils with a minor twist. [6 2 5 2 12 2.7]Bottle, as part of the Bridge Rd Advent Calendar. Clearly fresher than previously. Very pale hazy gold with a white head that fades but doesn’t disappear. Delicate aroma of hay and spices, a little earthy nuttiness. Light bodied and clean with less chestnut presence than suggested by the aroma. Dry, fairly bitter and spicy at the end.
