The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen
Black color, with almost no head. Nice chocolatey aroma, with a hint of fruits, cookies and tobacco. The mouthfeel is quite oily; the flavor is tediously monotonous, only heavily roasted malt, ashes, light liquorice, lacerating the taste buds; the final is a bit salty. The first sips are annoyingly dry, it mellows a bit with the warmer sips later, showing some sugars. The bitterness is strong, but it comes from the burnt malt.
Unbalanced and rather unpleasant.

100ml, draught, last drink on my first day of CBC. Devil-black body. Fawn-coloured head blanketing the glass. Inviting smell of vanilla chocolate, subdued roastiness. Delicious taste of confectionery chocolate supported by dried fruits and hints of liquorice. Malty bitterness to the ending. Perfect nightcap (Copenhagen, 11.05.2012).
