The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

Sample @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours black with a chocolate brown head that slowly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with dark sweet bread, smoke, chocolate, orange peal, roasted malts, sweetened coffee and hints of pine. Taste is slightly sweet and bitter with roasted malts, smoke, wood, coffee, tar, ash, bitter chocolate and pine. Mouthfeel is dry, tiny watery and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, coffee and smoke.

Pours pitch black with a lovely sticky brown head. Great aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, licorice and some fruits. Smooth and creamy taste with a lot of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Finish is roasty with some coffee notes and hints of vanilla. Excellent, extremely well balanced and tasty imperial stout.

Draught @ CBC ’12
Aroma has milk chocolate, cocoa and hints of vanilla. Rather intensive flavour has very roasted malt with really dark chocolate and. Dry finish with some warming alcohol. A bit different IS, and in a good way.

Bottle at LCRBM3. My first Dieu de Ciel beer. Black, tan lasting head. Good intense impy stout. Oily in mouth. Good intense espresso coffee, charcoal. Not too heavy on the hop and quite superb.
