The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

Getestet beim LCRBM Milder, schnell stärker werdender Antrunk. Der malzig-röstmalziger Ton wird sehr schnell stark und etwas scharf durch den Alkohol, sehr röstmalziger Nachgeschmack, angenehm. Test vom 11.9.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,12,11,11,-,11 - 11,15

Good yellow to orange head, nearly opaque-black beer. Roasted nose, with liquorice, alcohol and esters. Very inky, dry, flavours of wood or hardboard, and lots of roasted grains, with just a hint of hops. Very thick MF, alcoholwarming, seems to thicken in gradually. A very good, but not really exceptional stout.

A pitch black beer wtih a lasting brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with light notes of coffee - and in general the aroma is a bit light, but that was just coming off Peche Mortel. The flavor is sweet with coffee dominating, but also with lots of roasted malt. Another nice brew from Dieu du Ciel.

Black colour with dark brown head. Rich coffeeish, chocolatey aroma. Nothing unusual here, but done very nicely. Creamy body..luscious...with lots of chocolate and espresso this is a very decadent take on the style, without any stinging roast or rich fruit. Beautiful. A rare beer that seems to actually work well with nitrogen.

RBSG Nitro pour at brewpub This one starts with a down cascading nitro head of creamy tan that finally settles into a black body below. A coffee less Peche Mortel here. Roast malt and chocolate in the nose are followed by a somewhat bitter flavor profile ending with a dry palate. Just enough sweetness in this one.

Pitch black color with dark chocolate, bubblegum, whisky and tobbacco in the nose. Smooth, rIch dark chocolately mouth with hints of whisky. Well balanced. Lingering hoppy dark chocolate finish. Straight forward, but pleasent Imperial Stout

On nitro draught 6/2/2005 at the brewpub with Muzzlehatch, tiggmtl, Bret Kuhnhenn and co. Thick, molasses and brown sugar tinged black body, with a lasting beige-flecked tan nitro head. So here you have DdC’s non-coffee imperial stout, what to think? Well, since the Peche Mortel is not over-the-top, dosent have boatloads of bitter hops, a thick salty body, huge sticky malt and gobs of alcohol, then maybe this one does? No, not a chance. J.F. is too good for that, that’s right you American brewers, he’s better than you!!
Ahem, anyways, this one smells of light milk chocolate, raisins, caramel, ever-so slight tinges of smoke (or perhaps it’s just deeply roasted malt). Flavor is full of milk chocolate, creamy and moderately sweet, with fudge, vanilla-mocha cappucino notes and lovely roasted barley bitterness on the end. No hops noted anywhere. Nitro consistency makes it lightly watery and loose, with low carbonation, but the flavors are just so well-done that it isnt really a problem. No trace of alcohol. The roasted barley flavor in this beer is second to none. It’s not all out heavily roasted black coffee, but a more subtle plant root, meets lightly bitter oily coffee and just whole grains of rich germinated barley mash. Reminds me of how guinness used to taste, a long time ago. Maybe a bit too choco-caramelly sweet overall, but definitely well-done and more importantly, not overdone.

Sample at the Mondiale 2005: Poured a pitch black color stout with no head or carbonation. Aroma of roasted malt with strong coffee also easily recognisable. Taste is totally dominated by coffee with some subtle vanilla note. Body is quite full and alcohol is well hidden. Nice though DDC can do much better.

Deep black beer with a deep brown moka head. Chocoalte, vanilla and cold coffee come out in the aroma. Powdered chocolate, like milk chocolate, with initially intense hops at the beginning, and some lactic notes. Creamy body with complexity, and alcool warmth very evident.
