A sumptuous lemony aroma, rounded out with toasted sugars. Poured into the glass the beer reveals an oak honey tone, and its nose develops to encompass tart apple freshness and some light malt wisps. The first taste delivers a primarily citrusy edge, but extends to touch upon delicate hop tannins, finishing with a faintly smokey air.

Bottle that Dad shared- cheers! Amber brew with a thin white head and an aggressive, prickly fizz. Aroma of smoke and chocolate. Mild smoke on tasting too, with treacle, lemon and leaf mulch. A traditional bitter with enough of a twist to keep it interesting; this is a good full-flavoured brew that is just a little let down by a very slight metallic note and the over-the-top fizz. I would like to try it on cask.

Cask at Bar Fringe, Manchester. Amber pour with a white head. Quite a floral aroma, splash of malt, some fruit. Malt and fruit in the flavour. Average stuff and certainly not quite the over enthusiastic description above but I must give due credit to the author’s eloquence. Most impressive.

Bottle 500ml.Clear light medium amber colour with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, keller, light nutty. Flavour is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, fruity. IMO a bit borring. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120811]

Bottle from West Country Ales
Light chestnut brown...frothy white head..reasonable lacing
Aroma - light caramel malts...very light citrus and grass hops....light aroma....hint of smoke
Taste - Caramel malts....very light grassy hops...bit of citrus...some toffee...bit watery...flavours a bit too muted
Palate - Medium carb....thin body....light tangy. Finish as main flavour but leaves a mouth-coasting of light caramel toffee.
Overall - Reasonable bitter...a tad watery....would probably be better cask
