Bottled 330ml (PBF)
Clear nut brown color, small beige head. Lots of cardboard in the nose, maybe hints of caramel. Light-bodied. Sweetish, watery palate. Caramel, Coca cola of beers. Industrial feeling.

Bottle courtesy of GT2, thank you. Clear dark brown color, small tan head. Aroma of smoky caramel and licorice. Taste is sweet burnt caramel and tar. Without a doubt the best Guatemalen bock beer I have ever tasted.

Bottle (thanks mom!). A dark brown beer topped by a medium beige head that diminishes quickly. A slightly faint malty aroma with caramel and hints of milk chocolate. Something felt a bit off when I took the first whiff, but it seems ok now. A sweet flavor of toasted malt and caramel which finishes on a drier note. Medium-bodied. on the whole, feels a bit too light for a bock but it’s still ok.

Gotmos sneaked this out of Guatamala for me, the hard way, wink wink. Different label. Pours black with a small white head that quickly fades intp nothingness. Smell is macro corny and nutty. Taste is subdued enough not to be off-putting, cool iced tea with some macro corn and a dark faint roast to it. Low on bitterness as well as a well carbonated but lacking mouthfeel.

A deep red beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate milk and berreis as well as a slight note of metal. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of metal, but also notes of berreis, and towards the end a dusty hop note.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jul 9th, 2004: So this is a Guatemalan Bock. Pours dark ebony with mild carbonation and a medium thin and rocky beige head. Thin lacing throughout. The aroma is lightly malty and nutty. Medium-bodied with an off blend of burnt malt, caramel and cough medicine flavors. The finish is slick and sweet, making for a below average outing overall. Bock to the drawing board, fellas.

Very dark but with toasty notes and a refreshing finish. While some may question why this beer finishes light, and deride it for its simplicity, there is something to be said for a bock that works with Guatemalan food, which is hotter than the flames of hell. Don't believe me, go to El Asador at Bloor & Christie. Get the quesadillas, dump on the hot sauce and peppers, order all four Guatemalan beers they carry, and you'll see. This works as well as any of the pale ones.
