Bottle split at CBC Clerko Tasting, from the brewery #60/200, 03/06/15. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent tan covering. Nose is light smoke, pine, earthy hops, bitter dark fruit, charr, light grapefruit. Taste comprises bitter hops, light smoke, pinch of spice, light pine, toffee, liqourice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semim drying close. Ok CDA, hops seem to have faded a little more than the 2012 vintage!

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours deep brown with a thick, creamy tan head. The nose has some roast, smoke, citrus rind. Medium sweet flavor with burnt bread, earthy hops, strong roast, smoke, baking cocoa. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Nicely balanced finish with tasty, rich cocoa, some dark fruits. Very nice.

Bottle from Ales By Mail; opaque black pour with a thin tan head, aroma has coffee and light pine, taste has rich chocolate, pine, quality coffee, smooth mouthfeel, balanced bitterness, nice.

Bottle split at the Farewell to Bruce’s Pad Tasting, from the brewery, 27/03/15 #75/200. Light black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is pine, candied fruit peel, earthy hop presence, grapefruit, spice, charred notes. Taste comprises roast malt, touch of booze, grapefruit, pine needle, charr, earthy hop, touch of chocolate, tar. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Whilst ageing has done nothing to improve this beer it’s still a decent enough CDA.

Swan Song at Bruce’s. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Airy palate, semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, trace of cream. The hops are pretty reasonable. Pine, sweetish pine, mild bitterness and a little citrus. Semi dry finish. The hop character is reasonably well preserved but I don’t get the whole ageing/vintage character here.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours deep brown with a dirty beige head. The nose is sweet, bitter-sweet, juicy, toasty brown sugar, plum, prune, sugary, candy and earth. The taste is bitter-sweet, toasty, earthy, charred wood, ash, leather and dirt with dry finish. Medium + body and fine carbonation. Solid. Great aroma, but tastes a bit old. Got some red wax reflux. So-so.

Medium sweet flavor with some oily pine, toasted bred, baking cocoa, scorched earth. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Very slight resins on the finish, some boozy warmth, dried citrus, some wood. Very tasty.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a red tinge, foamy tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of roast malt with peppery citrus & pine hop. Sweetish dark malt, treacle & raisins flavour, plus a juicy orangey hop bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Very drinkable black IPA.
