650ml bottle @ Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki

Pours dark brown, almost black with a small smooth white head. Aroma of blueberries, roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Taste is slightly roasty with a lot of blueberries, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Finish is roasty with some blueberries and chocolate. Nice, quite tasty and complex stout/fruit beer hybrid.

(Bottle, 0.65 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20120605) The beer poured almost black with red shading. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had blueberry, roasted malts, sweetness and chocolate. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, chocolate, blueberries, ash, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, burnt and bitter. A tasty combination of blueberries and stout.

Bottled 650ml (Hilpeä Hauki)
Dark almost opaque black color, small beige head. Strong tasty aroma of blueberries, some toasted maltyness, maybe chocolate. Medium to full-bodied. Sticky palate. Tasty fresh blueberry flavor, some caramel, toasted maltyness and chocolate. Suprisingly good and balanced beer from Shipyard.

Blueberry nose, not strong with even more subtle vanilla notes. Maroon brown, thin tan head. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Starts with blueberry and ends with soil and baker’s chocolate. Vanilla comes and goes. In between is an odd intermingling of all three that isn’t terribly appealing. Pretty weird, but I think the brewer achieved their objective.

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Deep reddish brown appearance with a dark brown head. Very strong blueberry, mild vanilla, cereal, tart aroma. Somewhat toasty, rich, dark blueberry, slightly bitter, light caramel/chocolate flavor. Tons of blueberries. Pretty good one.

Smaskens

Bomber pours deep mahogany with tall bumpy tan head. The aroma is bold spiciness from the likes of black strap molasses, black licorice and some Mt. Hood like spicy hops as well as a bit of roasted malts and some thick blue berry notes too. I wasn’t expecting this to be so spicy. The taste is thick and rich and bold with robust spicy notes of black strap molasses, black licorice and spicy hops. Behind the boldness of the spices I get firm notes of blueberry syrup and bits of chocolate around the edges. It would really be tough to kill off a full bomber of this stuff alone without maybe a big meal with it. Still pretty good sipper.

22 oz bottle. Used a Weizen glass. Deep mahogany color, lively carbonation which leaves a thin off white head sitting on the surface. Nose is roasted malt and mild coffee. I don’t get blueberry at all. The flavor is an interesting mix of what the commercial description says. Malt and smoky peat is what people should be getting here. ABV is masked well. I have a strong feeling this brew would translate VERY different on draft. I only get a mild blueberry in the finish as an afterthought. The berry is there but very faint in the finish. This gets points for being different and creative. I don’t this this should be labeled as a fruit beer. A solid brew.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on September 27. Pours reddish black with a brown head. Smell is full of blueberries with some notes of dry sparkling wine. Taste is malty with an almost chemical blueberry taste similar to blueberry candy. Aftertaste is very porterlike with roasted malt and coffee. The beer kinda tastes like liquid blueberry pie...
