surprise surprise! another trafalgar infected DUD of a beer. If Steelback can figure out their problems and quit sending out infected stuff, why can’t Trafalgar? Aroma is very malty, to the point it smells like catfood. Flavour is so sweet, and cloying, as soon as it hits you palate all you get is a sickly sweet malty sourness. Wow, this is bad. Drain pour!

Bottle 22fl.oz.Clear medium to dark brown amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, maple syrup, moderate chocolate - nutty, light to moderate roasted - coffee. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration, maple syrup, maple, malt bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120529]

Airlifted 2000km north from Ottawa just so I could try it.... now, not that there’s any pressure Mr. Trafalgar Ales, but I hope you understand what lengths some Canadians go to try your brews! Poured cold at 6.3 celcius, it has almost no head and a brownish-amber body with little carbonation. The aroma is distinctly maple syrup, which is good, but there is nothing else there, which isn’t good. The flavour is a good mix between a stout and maple flavourings however - with a decent dry finish and okay mouthfeel. It’s one of those beers that, in my opinion, ain’t pretty but is worth a drink or three.

Bottled. A dark red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of maple, caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and a bit of maple sirup, leading to a dry finish.

65 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden brown to deep orange with a small. Mild herbal and roasted malty. Maple syrup and light spiced. Dense malty and caramelish. Liquid maple syrup.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of JanLaursen. Pours a hazy deep orangey brown with an off-white head - some tiny impurities. Sweet maple syrup aroma combined with a little pumpernickel. Medium body, sweet maple flavour - entirely authentic? - a little burned caramel as well. Dry finish. Not great but certainly better than its score here! 290512

LCBO ($4ish): Pours a reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is of maple syrup and some malts. Taste is quite simply maple at the front and pretzels at the back. Did I say pretzels? Yes, yes I did. I kind of like pretzels with beer and I also like beer that tastes like soft pretzels. So, although this might be too sweet, it is still quite alright.

Originally rated June 2007. Found this one in a LCBO in Toronto... came in a bomber. Pours a darker brown that is clean, with no sediments at the bottom. The head is medium, slightly creamy, mildly tanned and leaves a bit of lace. The nose is on the plumb side, with some dark malts undertones. Very smooth mouthfeel with a little stick at the end. The taste is pretty well-balanced. Not too sweet, I am surprised. They must of changed their recipe, or had good aging. The maple is hard to even detect. No bitterness, but slight hop taste appears in the aftertaste. The burnt malt and the sweetness equalizes everything. Decent maple bock.
