Cidermaker’s Barrel is an exciting, complex cider that is crafted from the wild yeast that has developed from decades of cider making and maintaining orchards on Old Hill. After pressing, the cider is racked into bourbon barrels where the slow, steady, natural fermentation process results in unique, robust characteristics. This traditional Old Hill process is a bit wild, like cider making of old, and therefore somewhat unpredictable, but expect bright, tropical fruitiness of the reserve cider that colonial cidermakers would have kept back for their own enjoyment.

Draft taproom. Flavor is dry apple, little to no sweetness but also not sour. Bland, nothing special, but quite inoffensive.

Rubber, apple smell. Clear champagne colored, some carbonation. Bone dry, with tart apple finish. Butter and oak at midpalate. Light body, spritzy. Wow, this is not for me. Too dry, too much like chardonnay.

From a bottle shared by my dear friend, Rosemary who picked this up while on a winery tour. Poured a translucent, slightly pale yellow color. Aroma had plenty of apples, pear notes, a little barrel. Flavor was apples, bourbon notes. Easy drinking, good.

From a bottle shared at a local homebrew club meeting. Pours a crystal clear pale yellow color with no head. Aroma of grainy apples and pear, earth and dandelion. The taste is apples, wood, earth, an almost mushroomy note, the faintest whisky note and a slightly bitter finish. Medium bodied. Certainly different and quite nice.
