Olde Deuteronomy is a beer that is high in alcohol, full-bodied, and has a "chewy" maltiness. Because it improves with age, it is called a barley wine.

Olde Deuteronomy is truly a beer to be shared with friends and should be sipped out of a brandy snifter. Each vintage will age and improve for several more years.

The beer starts fresh but viscous. Easy to drink but deep and thick. Malt, dried fruits, intense. Viscous, smooth, sticky. Toffee, dried plums, moderate bitter, smooth and malt. Not too sweetish, but easy to drink. Nice but not as complex as it could be.

Bottle thanks to someone! Pours a clear light amber with a tan head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grain with touches of caramel and toffee. Flavor is full of sweet grains and caramel with a touch of caramel.

2011 bottle at 10.3%, from Kensington Wine Market. It pours deep mahogany brown, with a thin yellow-white head. The nose is toffee, wood, varnish, raisin, caramel, spice, cinnamon bun and umami notes. The taste is wood, varnish, leather, spice, toffee, cinnamon bun, over-ripe fruit and booze, with a dry finish. Medium-full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Well balanced. A solid barley wine.

No hops except light grapefruit at first but plenty of dark berries that actually add, at first, some fresh fruit character.

2009 (11%) bottle via a trade with savvy1982. Pours with a mostly clear bronze colored body and a decently large khaki head. Very nice lace. Aroma from a mile away is strong toffee, vanilla and a bit of fruity (banana) esters. On closer inspection add toffee, brown sugar, molasses, maple, raisins, burnt flan, and tongue depressors to the mix. Flavors of alcohol, light metal, some orange, raisins, toffee, vanilla, butterscotch, caramel. There is a light acidity from the barleywine, not sure where that is from. Light graininess (cereal like). Very long duration. Rich on the second taste. Pretty taste. Bitter throughout. Medium carbonation, smooth and silky mouthfeel. Weighted. The more I drink the better it gets. Pretty well done!
