London Porter is an old style of beer that is slowly being revived by beer connoisseurs the world over. Its name derives from the working class men who worked as porters at the docks in London during the Industrial Revolution and is made from 5 different malts, which gives the beer an incredible depth of flavour without a high level of alcohol.

On 23rd Jan 2010 I opened and reviewed a 330ml bottle of this, pushed the notes into the bottles neck and put it in ’a safe place’. Today I was cleaning out the garage and came across the said cobwebbed bottle with it’s tasting notes (it was a 4.7% ABV brew back then). Not the darkest Porter on earth but a respectable Ruby Red hue to it, off-white collar and wisp. Looks fine in my Westmalle chalice. Chocolate and liquorice in the taste and aroma, toasted malts in the mix as well. Thin bodied for a Porter, but a fine beer that I brought back from Kenya after a great holiday.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of nimbleprop. Pours a clear dark amber with an off-white head. Caramellish nose with a slightly tart edge. Medium body, again dominated by caramel, the sourness gets more prominent in the flavour - clearly infected. No roast, no bitterness, no Porter. 190412
