Imperial IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Doom may be impending but that doesn’t mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

750ml bottle shared in GTMW13 line. Bourbon forward, but really grows on you. Really balanced and drinkable for the ABV. Caramel bourbon, but a nice piny hop balance too. Creamy, pleasant body. Well done.

Capped 750 from BottleSelect.com. Pours hazy orange/gold with a slight creamy off-white head. Aroma is alcohol and a stone fruit thing. Near full bodied. Flavor is malt, bourbon, stone fruit, bourbon, stone fruit and goes kind of floral in the finish. Moderate heat. Wowser!

Bottle: Poured a hazy bright amber/orangey color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of strong bourbon notes with some wood and some bitter hoppy notes. Taste is a mix between some light citrus hoppy notes with strong bourbon and vanilla notes with dominant oak notes. Body is average with oily texture and good carbonation with light warming alcohol. I am usually not a big fan of barrel-aged IIPA but this was quite drinkable.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Nose brings out heavy bourbon notes, wood and some resinous hops. Flavour brings out loads of bourbon notes, some sugary notes / residual sugars, subdued resinous hops, and lots of alcohol. The bourbon barrels are done very well, but completely take out the hops - so it doesn't seem like a IIPA at all. Fairly sugary and boozy, but it's all in good proportion. Surprisingly good, but I still don't see the point of barrel aging an IPA.

Enjoyed on tap at Rockwell's in Chicago, IL, pleasant surprise to find this on tap! Appearance is a bubbly slightly cloudy gold with a rich, bubbly white head. Aroma is nice with bourbon, wood, light sweetness, a bit subdued. Taste is great, DT is a powerfully hoppy brew and the bourbon barrel brings it down a notch while nicely combining with the bourbon barrel flavor. Definite burn on the tail end. The heat index is currently 100 so I probably should've had something lighter, oh well.

Bottle thanks to Jen. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head. The aroma is floral hop and bourbon. Medium mouthfeel with sweet vanilla and light fruity hop with nice lingering sweet finish. Very impressive.

Drought. Slightly hazy rich yellow color, very small off-white foamy head, fruity aroma, sweetish taste with a strong kick of bourbon towards the end, average carbonation, long finish with the whisky deliciously lingering on your palate. Very interesting and butt-kicking beer!

On tap at the Brick Store Sweet Sixteen Party. Yellow pour, with a small, off-white head. The aroma is nice floral hops, vanilla, butterscotch, and some bread dough. The flavor is significant bitterness, but well balanced with good malty sweetness. The body is heavy, nicely effervescent, and creamy. This is a very nicely done barrel aged IPA! Good balance and the barrel doesn’t destroy the hop profile. The mouthfeel is very nice. I wish I could drink more of this.
