Draft pour at Toronado, during their anniversary celebration. Dangerously smooth super imperial here. Citrus aroma. I expected an IPA of this strength would have a sweet side, but it didn’t seem to go that way. Warming caramel malts and earthy hops. A ton of wood comes through. Big beer with bourbon barrels, but after all that, this still didn’t really come off as boozy to me. A special beer here. Enjoyed this one.

I wanted to try this 12.4% Bourbon Barrel-Aged IPA from Founders but Beer Market on Raluten jacked up their prices and so lost my business... Thankfully I turned up a bottle hiding on a lower shelf at CBB, roughly 1200¥... Clear copper with a thick lingering beige head of foam. The aroma truly does combine a fruity sweet thick malty double IPA with vanilla, bourbon and oak from the barrels. I even get toasted coconut from it! The taste follows the aroma with that toasted coconut and oak. Tannic quality melding with citrus and pineapple hop notes to evoke a bit of piña colada. A bit of boozy heat but also vanilla and bourbon in the finish. This is fun stuff. I think you could age it but the hops would drop out and you’d wind up with something barleywine-sequel...

Sampled on draft this beer poured a murky honey amber color with a small foamy off white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy pine and grapefruit. The flavor was bitter , tangy and sour with pine, grapefruit, cleaning solution and a strong boozy presence. Long hoppy and boozy finish. Full bodied. Disappointing.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a dark cream head. Caramel aroma. Caramel and light grapefruit flavor with light summer fruit. Medium bodied. Decent bitterness. Caramel and light grapefruit lingers.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Clear light amber with a medium head. Sweet with warming alcohol, caramel, bourbon, some oak and grapefruit. The mouthfeel was medium and the finish bitter. A heavy one but quite tasty.

(355ml bottle from Systembolaget, bottled Apr 4/17) ~4mo at time of drinking. Pours a clear amber with a small but very stable fine white head and lace. Aroma is very sweet, notes of caramel, cotton candy, preserved orange, ripe fruit, vanilla/coconut barrel tones, anise and herbs, soft bourbon and wet wood. Flavour is sweet but without substantial malt complexity, dark caramel, pine resin, orange, cedar, wood, very soft bourbon notes, bitter resin in the back end. Medium-bodied, softly carbonated, with a fair kick of booze heat to match the ABV. Interesting, but lacking much bright fresh hop character (due to age or design?), it did not have that much complexity, like a bourbon BA old ale without the requisite malt layers. Solid enough brewing from Founders though.

Tangerine, pine and tonspinebooze in this but still comes off as well drinkable and not like licking the inside of barrels. The latter is well balanced. Orange hazy pour. Bitter and tangy finish. Bottle.

Bottle. Golden color. Aroma of bourbon vanilla, caramel, raisin, ripe fruit and oak. Taste has sweet lucious bourbon vanilla, caramel, ripe fruit, raisin, oak, fudge, soft bitter piney hops and a nice boozy and still somewhat hoppy finish. Very good, this is delicious.

Amber color. Big sweet malty nose with tons of caramel, vanilla, oak and honey but sufficient hops poking though to make this . The mouth is super heavy, rich big bourbon notes, slightly sticky and resiny. Slightly warming finish but overall pretty balanced for 12.5%.
