Strange beast this one, with a long story behind it so I’ll try to keep it simple. I was asked if I could do a brewday with friends of a friend who wanted to learn the brew process, to which I agreed. I asked for a few weeks notice of when they were coming to order supplies but was told the night before. I threw something together with what I had in the store on the day.

Cask (handpump) @ Brew Wharf, Stoney Street, London, Greater London, England SE1 9AD.Clear dark red brown colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, light roasted, moderate to light heavy hoppy, grapefruit, hop, moderate citrus, hoppy fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to light light heavy bitter with a average to long duration, hoppy, plastic smoke notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111210]

From cask at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a deep orange glare and a small white head. Aroma is roasted malty and slight fruity. Bitter, spiced and dark malty to solid hoppy bitter flavoured. Dry and roasted, bitter and slight herbal too. Dry and roasted malty finish.

’Dark Farmhouse’. Dark brown beer, not opaque. Small off white head. Light palate, semi dry. Very mild carbonation. Mild mild dark malt with a bare whisper of smoke. Nice fruit tones, mango, apricot, peach and orange and more generic fruit, gives a nice balance. Finishes semi dry with a tiny bit of bitterness. A tasty little number!
