On cask dispense at the Cask, Pimlico (Feb ’12). Dispensed into a UK half pint glass to a copper/dark amber colour with a thin white head. On the nose you get a big alcohol whiff straight away! Also a floral hop aroma and some dried fruits and general sweet smells coming off. Taste wise - sweet malts, hops, dried/dark berry fruits and a fairly strong alcohol flavour on the finish with a warming aftertaste as it passes down the gullet! Palate - a medium bodied beer but surprisingly not too heavy and free flowing for a 12% barley wine. No stickyness or treacle at all! Overall - for a 12% cask offering this was a good effort and very well balanced. Mouthfeel was good - not too treacley or sticky, quite thin really !
