Bottle from Thornbridge Brewery. A dark brown coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Nutty, malty aroma. Tastes the same, nutty, malty, caramel, slightly roasty. Not really going anywhere this one but it’s OK.

500ml bottle. Barely clear, copper-ish brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Grassy hoppy and nuttily malty aroma, hints of peanut, an artificial sugary touch of hundreds and thousands. Taste is nuttily malty, hints of peanut butter, a slightly artificial sugary touch of hundreds and thousands. Doesn’t work for me.

Bottle from Darts Farm, near Exeter. A brown beer with a beige head and a light fizz. There’s light but obvious peanut at first, with a little chocolate and Horlicks. The peanut grows a bit stronger as you drink more but remains well balanced against the other flavours. However the body is rather thin (especially considering the ABV), and the finish is short to the point if abruptness. The light body makes it easy to drink dangerously quickly but leaves you a little unsatisfied at the end. It’s mildly sweet and dry but leaves little lasting impression other than a lingering memory (but not an aftertaste) of nuts. Overall the flavours are well-balanced but it needs a lot more body and oomph. Well short of Thornbridge’s best.
