Brewed on March 31st 2009 to a strength of 20 degrees Plato and racked into wood on May 8th, this Strong Porter has had 23 months in wood. This was a typical maturation period for a mid eighteenth century Porter from one of the great London Porter houses, and more than enough time for the beer to have softened and mellowed, developing a complexity of character that demands absolute concentration from the drinker.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Countbeer. Very dark brown color, small off-white head that diminishes quickly. Smell and taste malts, a hint of liquor, slightly a hint of roast, nicely bitter, wood. Hard to describe but very nice indeed! Medium to full body, suitable carbonation. Very nice!

Bottle @ benzai. Dark brown colour with no real head. Smells coffee, roasty, chocolate, some alcohol, wood. Tastes sweet, chocolate, roasty, coffee, some alcohol, wood, sugary. Medium to full body, soft carbo, silky.

Bottle 750ml.Clear medium to dark brown colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, oak, alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20120202]

Bottle at papsoe tasting Licorice, clear dark brown almost no head. dark malts, roasted malts, bitterness in the aroma. Falvor is roasted malts, licorice, alc. A bit rough in the flavor profile, reminds me of de molen, still a good strong flavorfull porter.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted dark malty and toffee to breadish. Liqourice and dark roasted malty. Lasting liqourice and dark roasted malt flavoured. Light bitter, dark malty and slight phenolic.

Bottled. A dark red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, coffee, roasted malt, and butterscotch. The flavor is sweet with notes of coffee, alcohol, roasted malt, and wood.

Bottle @ Papsoe tasting. Nice creamy head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, whisky, wood, caramel,notes of fruit and hops.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a clear reddish brown with a beige head. Amazingly intense and delicious oak aroma - completely overpowering the roast. Solid body, sweet roast and licorice and again a ton of oak. Warming alcohol finish. Yummy indeed. 020212

Opaque black beer. Fluffy pale tan head. Nose of fresh dark malt and oak. Smooth dry palate. Fresh tasting dark malt, not bitter or roasty. Smooth oaky wood with a whisper of vanilla. Licorice and a trace of red fruits. Traces of chocolate and coffee. The alcohol is well hidden. The finish, for me, is somewhat over dry. But this was a rich and rewarding beer and the best of the College Beer Club so far.
