Porter Brewed with Northern Michigan Sweet Black Cherries
Dark, velvety, sweet, and toasty. Black Cherry Porter entered the Short’s-iverse as part of our Imperial Beer Series in 2007. We coulda dumped black cherry puree into a light, refreshing beer, but Joe had an itch for something more robust. The deep, rich flavors of an Imperial Porter are the perfect compliment to our regions national export, and Black Cherry Porter was made and quickly became a Pub favorite.

12 ounce can from Jack's Fresh Mart Menominee, 4/22/24. Typing that date was much more satisfying in 2022. But rating in two days will be just as satisfying. Black, large tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast, cherry. Taste is trong cherry, roast, chocolate, coffee. Tart from the cherries. Well balanced, Nice.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/12/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral and roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roasted bitterness and light fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness after the finish from roasted bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle bought in Copenhagen a couple of years ago. Black with a medium tan head. Aroma and taste of chocolate, light cherries, some wood and roasted malt. The finish was dry and fairly bitter, also with sour notes. Relaxed and kind of easy to drink.

Almost black. Aroma of prunes and cherries. Sour taste, reminiscent of fruit juice.Interesting experiment. A small glass for evaluation is enough for me.
