Malty 4.2% ABV bitter which is chestnut in colour with a slightly nutty hint. Hops balance the maltiness to provide a well rounded best bitter. Tavistock Estate is built on the site of the Cotterell Brickworks. Looking at Old Maps shows the brickworks were built some time between 1882 and 1899. The clay soil was ideal for making bricks and the pond that sits on the corner of Stanlake Lane and Ruscombe Lane was probably created when clay was extracted. During the Second World War, brickmaking was not a priority so the brickworks closed in 1939 and never reopened.

Cask at the Royal Oak, Twyford. A satisfying bitter, chestnut brown with tight white head - nice to see a darker colour after all the light coloured bitters around at the moment. Earthy malt aroma; nutty malt flavour with some caramel and traces of citrus to the rounded bitter finish. I could drink this all night - and did.

Cask at the CASK Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico on 2 March 2011. Reddish with offwhite foam head and little lacing. Sweet & earthy aroma, and the main taste is very fruity (cherry/grapes/berries) notes of cinnamon, peel along with some herbiness and floral hop. Finish was sweet but with bitterness increasing. Slightly grainy texture, and zingy with tingling tongue sensation. Enjoyable and not overly sweet.
