5.4/10 Appearance 4 Aroma 6 Flavor 6 Texture 4 Overall 5.5
Deep, very dark brown coloured body, almost the colour of a soda, without any opacity and not even a sliver of a white head on top - this looks nice and perhaps a bit dark for the style, but welcoming. Aroma of light toasted and almost roasted malts, some very light and noticeable nuts and earthiness with a bit of a rustic, almost 'dirty' scent. Light-bodied; Sharp funky biscuity and grainy malt flavours dominate with some light caramelised sugars showing near the front, but ending with some nuts, earth and a good dose of the funky lager yeasts. Aftertaste shows some softer grain and a healthy complement of sugars with caramel and a bit from nuts comes through as well. Overall, has a good deal of flavour considering the other options from the brewpub and stays relatively true to the style. One of the better (and we're not saying much) beers from the brewpub here. I sampled this four ounce pour on draught, as part of the full nine-beer lineup sampling, from the brewpub/brewery in Rapid City, South Dakota, just hours after landing in the state [for the first time, ever] on 25-June-2020 for US$12,25 (for all nine beers!).
