Hoppy Java is a big bodied, intensely hopped golden IPA with a distinct coffee presence. Cold brewed coffee complements the hop flavors but doesn’t add to the beer’s overall bitterness. The beer is hopped several times and then dry hopped with Cascade, Centennial, and Citra.

Fairly clear light amber and light brown coloured body with a very small, single centimetre tall perfectly tan head that stays afloat for a while. Aroma of coffee skins (cascara coffee/tea), light hop bitterness, some subdued malt notes, a hint of peated malt and a lot of nuts throughout - with some caramelised sugar sweetness as well. Medium-bodied; Super funky deep coffee flavours that dominate the front end, showing the coffee skins, funk, dry grass and a lot of hay with a dose of light hops noticeable towards the very end without any malts or substance. Aftertaste shows the coffee, bitterness and funk throughout with more of a coffee ice cream finish and straw-like dryness with some light hops, but that's about it - very funky and not enjoyable at all. Overall, not a very good blend between an IPA and coffee-flavours, this tasted more of a dry coffee-tea and bittered malt/earth/nut finish than anything else. Definitely not worth trying to find - if you like IPAs, coffee or the two put together, as in all three categories, you are left with an inferior product! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Liqour Oultet in Boonton, New Jersey on 21-November-2018 for US$3,19 sampled at home in Washington on 05-April-2019.

16 ounce can. Honey gold color. Frothy beige head. Earthy, toasted malt flavor. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. Emphasis on bitter. Big astringent, bitter coffee notes. Way out of balance. Lacking any malty sweetness. A bit of a disappointment.

From a 16 oz. can. Pours a clear copper with a slight off white head that receded quickly. Aroma of coffee. Flavors a bitter roast coffee and citrus peel. Lasting bitter finish.
