Dec. ’16. On tap at Ma Che, Rome. Written on blackboard as "V.F. Old Porter/Amarone". It poured a clear, I guess, dark reddish to black body with a small brown head. Lightly sour aroma, tart vinous, with wood, coffee and some sweeter malt like sour cherry and dried fruit. Flavor was lightly sour as well, fruity, vinous (tannin), with porter dark malty base like coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate etc. Not rich in flavors, except the general sourness but very complex just like its nose - could be elaborated more. Medium body. Finish was pleasant, longer duration, tart, wood was more prominent here along with tannin tartness, as expected. Coffee and other dark malts rounded it up all the way though. It was not an exquisite experiment, nor particularly tasty or enjoyable enough to reflect my score, but for sure it was an utterly interesting "keeping ale".

On tap at Eurhop, courtesy of the brewer and shared with mortlach. Pours brown color a bit dark with a solid beige foam which turns into a lacing. Nose is definitely close to red wine with character. Tons of wood, cocoa, dried figs. Simply great. Mouth: complex and rich. Chocolate, a bit funky, vinous. Bravissimo!
