Tasting at Papsø’s
Muddy brown color, medium sized head. Woody and smoke aroma, delicate and interesting, with some goat cheese and ammonia trace. Light body, with caramel flavor, some mild roasted malt, and just traces of smoke, betraying the promise of the aroma; low bitterness. Not impressive.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity and phenolic. Bitter, fruity, phenolic and mild meaty smoked on the back of the tongue. Slowly increasing smoked flavoured. Dry and malty finish.

Bottled. A brown beer with a bit of sediment floating around under a tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, alcohol, and some roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and alcohol, as well as a bit of brettanomyces, leading to a tart finish.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours an almost clear amber with an off-white head. Odd gluey aroma with an oaky edge. Medium body, sweet caramel and nuts with a pleasant oaky note while the smoke is extremely downplayed. A slight tartness. A little roast and ashes. But interesting indeed. 180911

Bottle. Mahogany with a lovely beige head that lasts and laces spectacularly. Aroma is vinous with dark berries and weeds, then beer-like notes creep in - caramel, grass, a wisp of smoke, vanilla. Taste is very complex and again a mix of wine and beer notes - dark berries, chocolate, vanilla, smoke, toasted malt. Nothing really dominates and it’s just mouthfilling. It’s very nicely done, but I appreciated it more than liked it.
