Sampled from the bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured a hazy gold with sediment on the bottom and a small white head. Aroma had some nice brett funk with an undertone of sweet and sour fruits. Flavor was a nice combination of sweet and sour fruits with a bit of an undertone of funk.

Huge thanks to AmEricanbrew! Pours with a small white head over a hazy amber body. Aroma of wet wood, wine barrel (red wine), caramel and a hint of vinegar. Taste is caramel, lightly tannic and light bitter with some vinegar, brett and florals. Not super sour, but beautifully balanced and easy to drink. Light bubbles. Great.

Shared by Stine, thanks Eben, super cool. I am very surprised with the JP special releases, surprised that I do not seem to enjoy them that much. The beer starts fine. Aroma has a good amount of sourness but it has all these other characteristics that are coming to describe American sour ales. There is a whole bunch of barrel (similar to Springfield Mueller Reserve, Buzzards Bay Farmhouse), lots of buttery oak, sweet oak sugars. Taste has a lot oak coming through, a negative astringent fruitiness and a nice thick vinegar like sourness. Not enough sourness to offset the other over-oaked characteristics. I am really glad I got to try this but this goes in line with a lot of the other brews that spend a lot of time in the barrel. Too much time? Maybe the barrels are newer, who knows?
