Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is very malt forward with tons of biscuit, toasted bread, layers of caramel and toffee, crackers and hints of notes. Light barrel notes and hints of alcohol. Pours an auburn brown color with light brown and ruby hues on the edges and a medium sized, medium thick, light tan head that recedes quickly to small clumps that linger on the edges. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of malt complexity. Layers of caramel and toffee balanced with less sweet notes of toasted bread, biscuit, cracker and hints of nuts. Medium light bitterness and light alcohol notes. Medium light barrel notes and oak. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this is an amazingly complex, malt forward beer. It kind of messes with you though as the barrel character and malt complexity have you prepared for a big, rich barley wine but instead you have a lighter bodied lager.
