Inspired by the sour red ales of Flanders. Aged for 2 ½ years in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels and inoculated with wild yeasts and bacteria, this beer is a study in complexity. Flavors range from cherries and blackberries to a leathery earthiness can be expected. Notes of wood and subtle acidic character also come into play. Its sharp acidity and complex fruit character give this Flemish Red a particularly wine-like quality.

My dear brother purchased this for my dear father, but alas my dear father does not like sour ales: Pours a sedimented red/brown sour ale colour with a head that lasts for the briefest moment. Aroma is wine, vinegar, and woody. In fact, I would say that the aroma is on par with the best sours I’ve had. Taste is a slight step down from the aroma, but is in no way bad. The sourness is rather intense and it really bites the tongue and only lets go a good deal into the aftertaste. Fortunately, this beer is pretty much all sour wood without much of any of that sweet nonsense. There is a good cherry flavour throughout. ’Twas a pleasant suprise. Bottle was bottled November 2011.
